Companies from 21 countries have taken part in Lebanon’s Expressions of Interest (EoI) for the development of 200 MW-400 MW of wind capacity.
Lebanon’s Center for Energy Conservation (LCEC) recently published a list of the 42 bidders that have responded to the EoI. Lebanese companies are most prevalent, followed by companies from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), China, Denmark, France, Spain, Italy and the UK, LCEC said.
The list includes turbine manufacturers such as Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:SGRE), which participate in several consortia, as well as Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Tech Co Ltd (HKG:2208) and General Electric Co (NYSE:GE). The participants also include names such as Building Energy, ACWA Power, and FRV.
Lebanon launched this second round wind EoI in January. It seeks proposals for the construction of four wind farms with a total capacity of 200 MW-400 MW.
In the next step, a detailed request for proposals (RfP) will be e-mailed to the 42 bidders. The RfP is expected to be announced in late September.
In early 2018, three local companies signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Lebanon’s Ministry of Energy and Water for 200 MW of wind power.
